The fires are starting to become more regular around here and the last couple of weeks has had us reaching for our woolens. And as with most years there are some new woolies to wear.

And what better to do, once you’ve donned your new woolens, freshly knitted by mama? Why go play in a big pile of dirt, of course!

We have an official dirt pile and it’s one of my kids’ favorite places to play, hence the array of cups and trucks and buckets and shovels. One day it’s a village full of houses, the next it’s filled with an intricate series of waterworks. On this particular day, a very important building project was in progress.

But back to the woolens…the longies are yet another project out of my giant UFO pile of yore. And the yarn is yet another shade of nature wool. Webs had the whole line on close-out for quite a long time, with different colors coming in and out. As a result, I’ve made a great many projects out of it, over the last couple of years. At around $4 a skien, it was pretty hard to beat. All of the projects in this post are from two skiens.

For the cuffs and waistband, I used yarn leftover from my shawl. It was my very favorite local yarn, which is sadly no longer in production.

The longies pattern I improvised, the hat is from Knitting Pure & Simple’s Basic Hat & Mitten Set for Children.

I think what this outfit is really asking for, is a super cute shirt to go with it. Something to think about. On this particular day, Iain helped Galen to dress. He really liked this old sweater vest (that I made a couple of years back for Elijah) with it. I’m not too keen on the flannel shirt with them. He did wear the longies, hat and sweater vest the other day, over a plain natural wool shirt, and that was actually pretty darn cute.

I had actually made this to go with the longies for Galen, but it was a bit big. It did however, happen to just fit Iain perfectly. And since he was next in line for a winter hat, and the color happens to look just devine with his eyes, well it only made sense that he should have it.

There is one other small installment to the Winter Blues collection, that I simply haven’t gotten around to photographing yet. And yes, there is still some more purple coming too, again, just as soon as I get around to taking the pictures! There is so much going on these days work on the house, crafts, homeschooling. I can’t keep up with the pictures!
