This girl is very difficult to photograph. She’s so very serious! She’s happy too and giggly a lot, but as soon as the camera comes out she becomes so intensely focused on trying to figure out what exactly it is and how to get it away from me, that all of the diversions that were so amusing just moments ago, hold no sway over her attentions. She knows well that Mommy is most fascinated with the camera (why else would she have it out all the time?), so it must be interesting and she really wants to know all about it.
The only other solution for picture time is to give her something else to investigate. But then of course she is looking at that and not the camera.
She is a serious little person for her age, but not so serious as she appears here!
I’ve been joking that I got cheated out of a newborn this time around! I honestly do feel like that’s a little true. She’s been in a hurry to catch up to all of these big brothers from day one. She’s been sitting quite well, on her own, since about 3 1/2 months. And already she’s scootching and squirming and lunging about to try to get where she wants to be. No time for this cuddling quiet business, you know…there is a world to explore!
My little brunette slowly morphed into a red head who’s now headed towards full out blond. I think that she’s going to be a blond toddler like Iain was, only with curls. She’s going to have curls for sure. When her hair is wet it curls every which way, but it’s so baby fine that as it dries it lays itself back down. I’m still not sure what color her eyes will end up being. They’re gray right now.
I find myself making a composite sketch in my head of what I think she’ll look like at different ages…hair the color of Iain’s, but the texture of Galen’s, lips like Iain, eye’s shaped like Elijah’s but more the color of Galen’s….and then taking all of those little bits and pieces in my mind and trying to imagine what she’ll look like at 3 or 5 or 10. It’s a funny little luxury of a fourth baby; knowing how certain features tend to grow up.
However the puzzle works itself out, Steve’s quite convinced that he’s going to be spending her teenage years sitting out on the porch with a stout stick. Me, I think she’s proved herself to be a pretty tough little chickie so far, with a clear view of what she’s after, and that she’ll probably be able to handle them herself!
One more picture…this one is of us getting ready for the ballet. A friend sent this little outfit for her to wear at Christmas time, but I don’t think it’s going to make it that long! I thought that her first ballet was as good an occasion for it as any.
And just one more picture, from this afternoon, just because it’s so sweet that it makes my heart hurt just a little…
Oh my! That last photo is so very sweet. My heart hurts for you.
Who cares if you are a little..or a lot late. The pictures are worth it. And that last one…well I know it too well with my girls and it hurts still with them 4 1/2 and 15 months. I don't know what it is but these little girls are in a huge rush to hurry and catch up with their siblings. And Mairi looks beautiful in her mama knit hat!
Beautiful, beautiful children.
Goodness sakes, Woman, to even make my ovaries wiggle a little is quite a task!
Beautiful children–and the picture taking isn't so bad either (fellow sm)
