Many moons ago, the lovely Claire, of Border Stories and I did a yarn swap. And the yarn, well it will all be something some day. But at the moment it’s only half a something. The roving however, is finally a something and that thing was a surprise even to me.
I’ve loved the color and the softness since it came, but could never quite decide what to do with it. Felting seemed like the logical option, since there was only just a little bit of it. But I could never make up my mind. Then yesterday when I was going through my little box full of random bits of roving, I picked it up and I started spinning. Really I had been wanting to spin it all along, but I couldn’t come up with a use for it once it was spun.
And then I started knitting right from the spindle. Then I just kept knitting, adding in other scraps of yarn that I had on hand. And I finished it up during a late night talk with Iain (he wants a new bike and a kitten and possibly a motorcycle. He has plans to become a professional baseball player, only he’s not really sure that he could actually hit the ball over that great big fence. He’d like to fly on an airplane too. And he completely blames me for when we had to re-home our dog 3 years ago after I got sick. And he’s never going to forget or forgive me. Which is good actually because really I hadn’t felt like I’d met me quota of Mother Guilt for the week and that should pretty much cover me for the year).
with all the blues and greens it reminds me of the sea…
Absolutely gorgeous little hat!
