Deep winter is finally upon us and that fire cider has been coming in handy.
One my mind and in my kitchen….
Grapefruit. We’ve been peeling them like oranges and eating the meat out from between the segments. It’s messier than slicing them in half and daintily eating with a fork, but far more satisfying.
The perfect teapot. Having given up hope that I’ll ever come across a giant pottery one like they use to serve tea in the servants hall on Downton Abbey, I think this, in white, may be my more realistic dream teapot. The one that I use now, which has been without a lid for the past 4 years, is by this same company. I love, love, love the infuser basket. And this one is shaped like an acorn. Cute!
Simplifying. I know I talk about it all the time, but I’m stepping things up a notch. I just sent five bags of books packing and I’ve only just begun.
The Concept of a Capsule Wardrobe. And more specifically, a mostly home-made capsule wardrobe. This of course ties in with the topic above. On a ten piece wardrobe.
These Books. Give me a fantasy adventure geared at teenagers and apparently I’m good to go. Oh, but I’m almost done! Suggestions for future reading?
Color. That’s right, the Queen of Neutrals is all about the color at the moment.
Knitting. Shocking, right? But perhaps even more so than usual (I don’t really know how that’s possible either). After a long hiatus, I’m back to designing and will hopefully have a couple new patterns for you in the very near future!
Tiramisu. As in trying to figure out a way to make it with safe-to-me ingredients for my birthday next week, quite the challenge!

I highly recommend the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull, if you haven’t read it yet. That was an awesome adolescent fantasy story! Definitely my favorite of the genre. Enjoy!
I love the list and I’m in total agreement over most of it. I love the capsule wardrobe idea and the homemade capsule wardrobe???? Now your talking my language! Simplify Simplify Simplify…..thats where I am at right now.
I recommend the “Gregor the overlander” series.
We have the curve teapot and have used it every single day, all day long, for at least the past six years. I like the tab on curve’s strainer better than the lift out design on the acorn, because I tended to burn my fingers on it (but perhaps you are much cleverer than I am on that!). I am sorry that I do not comment more, but I do savor every one of your posts. It is encouraging to me to see how you live your life and raise your family as I struggle daily with pots/eds. Apparently, it takes a tea pot to draw a comment out of me, though.
I’m working on a capsule wardrobe too. I’m not in to fashion either and looking for staple mix and match pieces to throw on. Oh I hope you find a wholesome tiramisu recipe!
Oh yes, i second mamaashgroves recommendation. I’m actually re-reading that series right now. It’s by Suzanne Collins (of Hunger Games fame) written for a younger audience. The kids and i don’t understand why tbe Gregor series never reached tbe same level of popularity as they are truly wonderful book. I’m pretty sure the meekins has tbem.

Hey Melody! I have been slightly obsessed with your blog lately. I think I found you via Ginny’s Yarn Along last week, and I have been spending many of my extra moments reading back through your blog. I think I’ve made it to March of 2014. I hope that doesn’t sound creepy! It’s not! I just really enjoy reading what you write, and I LOVE your photos.
I love grapefruit- we have right now those pink, quite sweet ones- and I also started to eat them like oranges and pomelos.
And I am also looking for a nice big teapot. I have a nice smaller one I inherited from my grandmother but the lid is also missing…
Mmmh… and since you mention tiramisu- I love this so much and have a hard time to find the ingredients (although I am usually doing the “unsafe” version with eggs)… have to go hunting for mascarpone in the next days.
