We’re headed to Pennsylvania in a couple of weeks to visit family and I wanted the boys to have their own bags to pack things like water bottles, snacks, entertainment and their own special things that they want (as opposed to the bags full of things that I deem necessary, which will need to come as well).
I couldn’t seem to wrap my brain around how to create exactly what I wanted for Iain and Elijah with the materials and time at hand. I wanted them to have backpacks that would be secure on their backs for biking and things like that and lots of pockets and compartments for their various collections. The more I thought about it the more making them seemed like, well, a hassle; one of those times when it’s probably just not worth it. So I decided to buy them instead and after much futile searching on-line for a reasonably priced bag, made from a safe, environmentally sound material, I chanced upon the cotton canvas bags you see in these posts at a store that I never even expected to walk into. I had to get two of the same, because that’s all they had, but we’re thinking about adding patches and things to give them some individuality.
For the Goosey Boy, I had a clear and simple vision of what to make. Easy to put on by himself, easy to take off by himself. Not too big and not too much, with a place for his sippy and room for some books, a sketch pad and crayons and some little toys, in a fabric that he loves.
Just right.
Hello,
I am coveting your cowboy messenger bag! I would love to have one for myself to use as a purse. Do you ever sell the things you make on Etsy? You are very talented! Thanks for your wonderful blog as well.
~Gillian
I’ll say just right.
Hi, I found your site because you’re reading Betsy-Tacy – which is my favorite favorite series of all time. And I LOVE this cowboy messenger bag? Can you tell me where you got it? I’d love to get one for my son (he’s 4) they are adorable! Love the photos of the Easter egg hunt as well. Thank you!
This is adorable- my 6 and 3 year old boys would love this!
Book Club Girl-Dear Betsy-Tacy! I made the bag for my son. Thank you for the kind words.
Gillian- No, I’m afraid I don’t have an etsy shop just now. Life with four little ones keeps me pretty busy. I was thinking of making one for my daughter and writing up a tutorial when I do. So, if you sew…
Oh and gillian, you’re right, it would make a great purse! I had that thought too.
LOVE this! That print is AWESOME. I hope you do make another with a tutorial – I’m a novice, but I could try and I have a great friend who could save me if I needed
