While it’s true that it wasn’t quite done in time for either her actual birthday or her birthday party, it has been done for quite a while now. She wore it to some of her brother’s concerts over the winter.
See, I even have a picture from March to prove it…
Not that you can tell that it’s from March, but trust me, it is (she looks younger right? So you can kind of tell…).
Patterns: ‘Dress with Lace Edging’ from The Baby Knits Book: The Ultimate Collection of Knitwear Designs for Newborns to 3-Year-Olds by Debbie Bliss
The bonnet-headband-hybrid-thingy is a prototype of mine, that I only really got that one picture of above because she took it off immediately. And I can’t really blame her, since it is the middle of summer (of course that didn’t stop her from refusing to take off the dress when we were done).
Yarn: Reynolds Saucy Sport in Baby Blue (though it’s not actually the color I think of as ‘baby blue’, it’s more of a pale greenish-blue). It’s got excellent stitch definition, and a lovely sheen. I normally prefer wool to cotton, but this yarn worked really well for this project.
Button: One heart button from my grandmother’s button jar. When I first acquired her jar, I came across this lone little button and thought that it just *needed* to be used for baby clothes. But then in practice, as it turns out, how often do you really need one little button, even for baby clothes? Ah, but that’s just what I needed here, one little button.
I love, love, love this pattern and this dress, especially the lace trim.
It makes us both very, very happy.
oh, she is just too cute!
and the handmades… *sigh* just beautiful : )
Ohh thank you! I wanted to see this dress since you posted a tiny bit of it in December!!! Beautiful!! I love the trim .. the color.. the sweet little girl in it. AWW you’re the best!!
