While I greatly enjoyed my little dabble into the world of feminine attire, I am now officially back on the job, creating for my boys.
A quick trip to our favorite pond, in that hour just before dinner, when the sun is bending towards the trees. There is a cool breeze that keeps me on shore. The little ones are more adventurous. They splash around the edges and eventually, up to their knees, laughing and swooping about with big nets.
I sit on a towel, on the damp grass, in my big brown sun hat, working in the ends, methodically, yarn after yarn. My eyes shift down to my hands and up to scan the surface of the water with every second that passes. It’s not something I need to think about. It’s like breathing–up, down, in, out, it’s just something my body naturally does. Occasionally, the work of my hands is displaced, when I’m called upon to to wrap and cuddle a shivery boy. But mostly, my hands move on and on, working down sleeves and across the neckline, while tadpole after tadpole is caught, carefully examined and gently released. The tallies add up as the sun kisses the trees and I know that dinner must surely be done.
Back out of the water and into the cool breeze which has started to kick up yet again. Lots of brisk rubbing with thick terry towels and donning of scarce and sundry dry clothes; whatever can be found. And for the littlest one, the work of my hands, finally complete. Just right for the hike back to the car and home.
In a pattern I made up as I went a long. I thought that the wide sleeve would look cute, but it turns out that they just look big. Live and learn.
Love the colors, such a peaceful combination. Very pretty sweater:-)
Oh gawd, Galen is just the cutest little boy ever. I am not a traitor, obviously my own boys are on a par eith him, but, jeesh, you must ahve to kiss him about a thousand times a day. I LOVE those colours! So so pretty. I have always thought that knitting for boys can be more creative than for girls, it stretches the palette of colours and designs. It really is very pretty!
Would you like to do an organic/local yarn trade Melody? Say two 100g skeins? At least with two we could make something more than a hat, then we could post what we make?
Anyway, let me know if you are interested!

Such lovely writing. I know that place in my heart, I must have been there!
Great sweater, sweet colors, and the boy…darling as ever!
What a great sweater – I love it. I have often wondered if I would dress a (at this stage hypothetical) son in as much knitting as I dress my little girl – but having seen those photos the answer is definately yes. He looks great.
