The First

The first of what I’m sure will be many little spring dresses. This one is made from Simplicity 3508, which is a reprint of a 1950′s pattern. The fabric is a Robert Kaufman 1930′s reproduction that I adore.

This winter was a l-o-n-g and cold one. I spent a lot of it fantasizing about making her a little yellow dress (with matching sweater and bonnet). In fact, I spent my birthday picking out the fabric for the dress. Apparently I really do find sewing spring dresses cathartic. Seems as though I’ll have to make it a regular thing (just twist my arm why don’t you…).

~The wee girl is trying to sit herself up here, because she is quite convinced that she is actually a big girl.~

I thought this dress was really just the cutest thing ever on the hanger. Then I put it on her, only to find that the arm holes and the neck hole are much too big. Which was my gut feeling as I was putting it together, but I dutifully followed the pattern. Bummer. You can really see what I mean in the picture below. Maybe it will fit her better by the time warm weather actually arrives.

I think she’s going to be wearing it for a long, long time. First as a dress, then a tunic and finally a shirt. I love clothes like that.

I love the dress. And it being a bit big just makes it more adorable. Heck I should know…I’ve made a couple tank ‘dresses’ on the fly that my Melodie could wear until last year when she just grew to tall too fast :) Thank you for the pattern info too.

I love your blog. Your life looks so peaceful and something I dream of often. I love how crafty you and your family are. You have very handsome sons and a beautiful daughter. May you and your family have many happy days.

Cute, that last shot, so cute!

I think it’s great alittle big and like you said fit to grow. She is getting so fat and yummy. Rich Mama milk, well done.

l.o.v.e. the dress! I’ve been itching to get a spring dress/skirt made for my little girl – thanks for the inspiration!
