{this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. ~Amanda Soule

Hello all, we were without power for a bit after Irene passed through.  All is well here.  Being at the top of the mountain, we were spared the flooding that has ravaged all of the lower lying areas around us.  We don’t have to go far from home at all to see the damage.  Roads that we traveled all spring to get to baseball games washed out, buildings we know washed away, local landmarks in ruins.  Steve’s commute now involves detours in order to circumvent bridges that have been destabilized.  It’s a world oddly changed and oddly the same.  I was amazed two days after the storm to go out and find the road full of monarch butterflies, in the deepest colors I’ve ever seen, flitting about, business as usual.  Entire buildings were destroyed and yet these delicate and fragile creatures are still thriving.  Our hearts are with all of our neighbors in need.  We are feeling very grateful for many, many things.

I have many emails in my inbox; pattern questions and other things.  I’ll try to get to some of those today, as well as responding to some of the comments that were left while I was away.  Whatever I don’t get to tonight, I’ll answer over the weekend.  So, if you are waiting on something from me, check back soon.

I hope you have all been well and safe and good.  Happy weekend everyone!   ~Melody

What a precious picture! And so incredible that in the wake of Irene and all her destruction they managed to live! Our hearts are breaking for the entire state of Vermont as it struggles to get back on its feet. Being down here in MA (when we would rather be living in VT, or at the very least, closer so we could help out) we just feel so helpless! And to think the worst that happened down our way was downed branches and (several days of) lost power!

Our moment this week is a hurricane prep moment! But not the kind you might be expecting. A local farm sent and email out saying that there were lots of raspberries that needed picking before Irene struck, so we grabbed a container and went off to help “save the raspberries”. The picture you see is the result of the hard work we did! :)

    Have a wonderful long weekend!

glad to hear you all are safe and well. Mother nature has such a unique balance, on the one hand she can be destructive and wild, and yet she makes the most amazing creatures and survivors. Having no power for a while is only a small thing, your all safe, thats what matters.Hugs
