Pattern: Man’s Cable Cardigan by Josh Bennett from the Winter 2009/10 issue of Vogue Knitting
Yarn: Cascade Yarns 220 Sport in Silver Grey
As this is a men’s pattern, it required a lot of alterations on my part. He is at an age and size now where it’s difficult to find patterns for him, either knitting or sewing. Most children’s patterns only go up to size 12, not big enough, but he’s also not yet a men’s small. I’ve been spending a lot of time adapting patterns lately.
This sweater required a lot of thought. He says that he likes his sweater from last year, and I genuinely believe that to be true, but he never wears it, which is a disappointing fate for such a large project. I get it, I do. There are things in my closet that I like, I really and truly do, but for one reason or another (and I can’t always tell you exactly why) they never get worn. Now his sweater from two years ago was worn constantly. Even when it was much to short. While he did finally give up wearing it, I still don’t believe that he’s allowed it to be passed down. It was his favorite sweater ever. So I had a bit of detective work to do, trying to discern what exactly makes for a wearable Iain sweater. He does love his cables and bobbles, sweet child of mine. But I think it went deeper then that. Last years sweater was very heavy, made of thick yarn and bulky. I had a hunch that his preference is for a lighter weight, slim-fitting sweater.
Judging by the amount of wear it’s getting, I think this just might be his new favorite sweater.
Beautiful knitting ! The sweater is simply gorgeous:-)
The detective work we do. He is getting so big. You did a really nice job on his new sweater. I am glad he is wearing it.
Melody, I believe you may have outdone yourself- this sweater is perfect!! And that boy of yours wearing it, HANDSOME.
Oh I know about those “in between” sizes. My girl is there too, but luckily womens size small or x small works out okay usually.
beautiful photos, beautiful sweater. blessings.
