Seal’s Quickie Scarf

This scarf is actually from back in November, I just never got around to posting it.

Our dear friend and neighbor Seal decided to have a birthday party for herself. Because we are all so fond of her, I wanted to give her something special. But because of everything else that was going on at the time, I knew that I would only have a day, maybe two, at the most to make it. It had to be a quick knit and it had to be something that I could knit from yarn in my stash.

I thought the the yarn I had leftover from Kyan’s Carrying Cape, was probably the best candidate. It’s soft and shimmery and kind of luxurious and in a great color for Seal. After a bit of searching I decided to go with the Branching Out pattern off of knitty. I liked the leafiness paired with the green yarn and I thought it made a wonderful combination for someone who’s as passionate about the environment and nature as Seal is. It was also accurately described as “easy”, thus making it a quick knit. I didn’t do quite as many repeats as the pattern calls for. I simply continued the repeats until I ran out of yarn.

I cast on at 11:30 pm one night and gifted it at around 3 pm the next day. It was gifted unblocked with plans of taking it home to block later, but Seal decided she didn’t want to give it up! So I left her with blocking instructions. Obviously, without being blocked the lace in these pictures doesn’t pop out quite as much as it could. I was still pretty pleased with the outcome. Not bad for a night’s work.

I KNEW I recognized the yarn correctly :-) …..Kyan has actually worn it quite a bit lately…..I bundle him in warm stuff, and then this just looks really pretty on top (plus it’s easier to get him in the car seat with this on than a snow suit). In my addled post baby brain, I am not sure I ever said Thank you-But if I did not then, I do now-it is a lovely and personal gift and one of the ones I cherish most because it was handmade from a friend. I am sure your friend Seal must feel the same way about her scarf.
