Her very first project was a beautiful rug for the children’s play area. The only reason that I haven’t featured that one on the blog yet, is that I need to back it to help it lay flat and live up to the rough treatment it’s bound to receive.
Projects #2 and #3 were full twin-sized blankets for Iain and Elijah. I felt it was rather a daunting project for someone just starting up again, I mean, you all know what my attention span is like…I was afraid it might run in the family! But Mom would hear none of it and remained completely undeterred. As a result, the boys each got a doll sized version sometime in October, as a preview of what was to come, and Christmas brought the real deal, perfect for wrapping them up in head to toe Me-mom love. I’m sure, in part, because as it turns out, staying up all night crafting is in fact hereditary (even if a stunning inability to actually complete projects, is not).
She let the kids cruse the peaches ‘n cream site to pick out their own yarns. We were, all of us, shocked when they showed up, as they were not at all what anyone expected. Both boys seemed quite content with them anyhow, so all was well.
The way that the colors pool on Iain’s blanket, almost give it the look of a Navajo blanket, when all stretched out (though certainly more pastel then one would expect!).
They both adore them and sleep under them ever night, and often carry them around the house as well.
When she first started working on it, she asked my sister if it was “too pretty” for a boy. To which my sister replied, “Not for Elijah!”
Ohhhh…your children are very lucky indeed to have such a loving doting grandmama!
I love your blog…Xxx
What lovely blankets, your boys look so sweet and snug. I have just discovered your blog from here in Australia and can’t get over the beauty of where you live, the trees, the snow, WOW!!
