This is one of those projects that’s been on needles for what feels like an eternity now. It was, in fact, featured in my famous ridiculous pile of UFO’s post, back in January (see it in the upper right hand corner there?? uh-huh.). And I quote “There’s a mitten without it’s mate, leg-less longies, and a sweater that has been finished since September, save for working in the ends and sewing on a button…” Yeah, that would be this sweater. I’m sure that all of the highly organized knitters out there, for whom I trigger heart palpitations, will be relieved to hear that I am slowly wading through that giant pile of mine.
I cast on for this sweater during this trip (yes, it’s been that long). Though to my credit it has been done for quite a while now. Do I get credit for taking months and months to post a project?!?
I made a lot of quick progress in the beginning. Then it spent several months sitting in a bag, sleeveless. At some point I pulled it out again and knitted the sleeves… And then tossed it aside again. And this is where things start to get rather ridiculous. Over the course of half a year or more, I picked it up again on three different occasions, each time doing the same thing. First I would rip the cuffs, then I would add a couple of inches of now necessary sleeve length, re-knit the cuff, cast off and put it aside again, without ever bothering to to just do the finish work!
I told you I was pathetic.
And as of the time of these pictures, I still hadn’t bothered to sew on the button. And he wore it for about 2 months before I actually managed to tackle the herculean task.
The pattern is Knitting Pure and Simple’s Children’s Tunic #232. I think it was pretty straight forward. (Who remembers at this point?) The yarn is Peaches ‘n Cream in Winterberry.
Usually I’m pretty down on the cheapy yarn, but I actually kind of like it in this case. This is so not a dressing up sweater, this is a throw-over-tee-shirt-and-jeans-and-run-outside-to-play-sweater. And it rather suits that casual, faded feel.
And here is the perfect button, picked out by my darling middlest boy….
I thought it was a great choice and just fit in with what I expected this sweater to be…one that is thrown on when the wind kicks up at the beach (you didn’t even notice that sneak peak, did you?), or an extra layer for hiking and climbing trees. Yes, it is just that kind of sweater.
Oh sweater, I am so done with you! (She said, while trying desperately to ignore the fact that the button should really be about half an inch higher…)
I love it! It feels very beachy being cotton. You are awesome, really.
she really is
